Cheque please

Cheque please

As the song lyrics go; the times, they are a changing.  This includes how we pay for stuff.  If you’re still using cheques to pay your tax bill, time is not on your side.  As of 1 March 2020, IRD will no longer accept cheques unless you are able to prove that you are not able to make payment any other way – not all that easy to do.  IRD say this is because processing cheques is an incredibly manual, laborious task, and they are trying to automate as much as possible.

To be fair to them, technology has moved beyond the cheque book, and we are certainly seeing less and less cheque transactions take place.  So, time to move beyond the cheque!  If you’re not sure how to go about making tax payments online, get in contact with us.
