Lead up to Xmas

I think we will all agree that 2020 has been a bit of a strange one.  Many of us are looking forward to getting through the home stretch to the Christmas/new year shutdown, which is now only a few weeks away.  While this is traditionally a crazy-busy time of year for many of us, if you run a small business, there are a bunch of practical considerations to work through.  Save yourself some stress and get these sorted sooner rather than later (if you haven’t done so already).

  • Shut down times – is everyone clear when the doors will be closed and when they will be opened again? Not just your team, but your customers too?
  • If you have staff, are you clear on their holiday entitlements?  If you’re not sure what the rules are, check out this.
  • If you have staff that don’t have enough holiday pay to cover any non-stat days, how will you address this?
  • Do you need to have an ‘emergency contact’ or someone on call-out over the holiday period?
  • Jan-Feb is often a pinch point for small business cashflow as holiday pay needs to be covered, provisional tax is due, overheads keep rolling in and revenue stops.Do you have enough cash in the till to cover this period? If not, what’s your plan?If you’re not sure, get in contact.

Finally and perhaps most importantly, 2020 has been a bit of a rollercoaster year, and for many of us, that has brought about a bit of extra stress. So at a minimum, take a couple of days to unplug and relax and recharge.2021 is probably going to be turbulent, so you’re going to need to be on top of your game!
